Poverty Concern was founded in 2009. We are group of people who have come to the UK in the last twenty-five years, from the Horn of Africa. We know at first hand the many issues that confront people in settling in the UK and we want to help those who have come after us.
Since its creation we work to alleviate the poverty and advance the welfare of people in Enfield who have come from the Horn of Africa – Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Sudan.
We do this through providing comprehensive support, training, Education and advice to both adults and children.
This includes – welfare, immigration and benefits advice; language translation; employment training; functional skills training; supplementary education. We are also a point of contact for community issues, and work with Enfield Safer Neighborhoods team and Enfield council to provide mediation in situations of domestic abuse, anti social behavior and forced marriages.
